My sweet baby boy entered the world in February and my mom threw me a sprinkle shower in my home. (Thanks Mom!) Due to us not wanting to find out the sex of our baby until birth. We found it to be a little challenging to plan a party that would feel gender neutral while still being pretty. Because, hello give me all the girly things!
I settled on a donut theme and it served a dual purpose.
#1 It went well with the idea of being “sprinkled” for this baby, since I already had a big shower for my daughter.
#2 It fit in with the method I used for tracking my pregnancy with S. I decided on tracking his size or weight with junk food. So each month I took a photo of myself eating a different type of junk food as he was getting bigger. I really enjoyed the donut one, so naturally this meant that both a sprinkle and a donut were part of my theme!
While the concept of a donut party is nothing new, we were able to add in some elements that felt fresh and fun- like for the backdrop on our focus wall.
There is a large wall that you see right when you walk into our home. Whenever I host a party I always try to have it make a statement. I usually make something with paper because it is inexpensive and fairly easy to put together for DIY projects. This sprinkle idea was no exception.
I had an idea to make a giant sprinkle jar spilling jimmies out over our T.V. We couldn’t find this idea or any printable to make it happen ANYWHERE on the web, so my super creative mom and I got to work!
I wanted the jar to look 3-D and we were planning on using museum putty to hang it. We ended up going to Michaels and picking up a sheet of clear poster board. We cut two identical pieces to be each side of the jar. Then we cut out a lot of sprinkles and hot glued them on the bottom jar shape before hot gluing on the top jar shape.
Since I didn’t have any type of plotting machine, that meant my mom and I cut out each individual jimmy by hand. It was time consuming for sure, but once we saw it all up on the wall, it was so worth it! And do you want to know the best part? It only cost me less than $5! You can’t beat that!
I’d like to save you some time on your party by sharing this free printable with you!
Just buy a few pieces of card stock in the coordinating colors of your party, send it through a printer (yours or a printer at an office supply store) and cut. Easy peasy!
P.S. I think the star of the whole show was pretty cute too 🙂
