Today I am sharing the first post in a series of small item organization with you. The first post is on stickers. I know we are all short on time so these are easy projects you can complete in under an hour!
You’ve heard the term “like items together” when it comes to organization right? While this statement is true, some items need to be organized even further in order to have any sort of efficiency.
My sticker organization system used to look like this
From the outside it looked great and even from the inside it made sense. They were all stickers. But because they were all together, it always took me 10 minutes to find which sticker I wanted. I usually ended up dumping the whole bin out anyway which meant I had to clean up afterward. There had to be a better way!
I wanted something see through and visually appealing since it would sit on the shelf in our multifunctional closet for easy access.
After some research I came across these clear envelopes from The Container Store and I knew they would be perfect. They come in two different sizes and the 9 1/2 by 7 inches size fits most sticker sheets nicely. The clasps are easy to use and stay snapped. I picked up ten.
The first thing I did was dump all the stickers into a pile and sorted them into like categories. After doing that I realized I had WAY to many categories so I did some grouping where it made sense.
The categories I chose were
- Animals and Insects
- Characters (Disney, Nickelodeon, Book characters etc.)
- Music and Sports
- Parties and Food
- Words and Letters
- Spring (Flowers, Easter, St. Patricks Day)
- Summer (Fourth of July, Beach, Vacations)
- Fall (Back to School, Halloween, Thanksgiving)
- Winter (Snow, Christmas, Valentine’s Day)
Labeled and Organized
First, I used my label maker and wrote the titles in the upper right hand corner so I could find them quickly. I chose to put the clasp on the right since I am right handed. Yes I practiced before I labeled and realized that direction was the easiest for me. I’m not the only one who does things like that am I?! #don’tjudge 😛
I picked up a galvanized tin at Michaels to corral them all and it now sits all tidy and lovely on the shelf! Makes you want to go use some stickers huh? 🙂
From my home sweet home to yours,
