Miss E will be 2 in a few weeks and we have been talking a lot about when her birthday is and how we will celebrate. And as usual, I have to find some books about birthdays to reflect the season we are in!
Due to my daughters increased interested in longer and more complex books, many of our current featured reads are in paperback form. But she is only 2 after all so a few board books made the cut.
Below you will find a list of books that we are reading and loving about birthdays!
Birthday’s Around the World by Margriet Ruurs– This book is technically fiction because they are characters but to me it falls more under the non-fiction realm. It follows different children from around the world and shows how they celebrate their birthdays.
Every Year on Your Birthday by Rose Lewis– This sweet picture book shares the special relationship an adoptive mother has with her daughter. They make memories each year on her birthday while also remembering life before they were together.
Happy Birthday, Mouse! by Laura Numeroff– This Laura Numeroff and Felicia Bond book is one of MANY in the fun and clever series. It is a short and simple tale of the many tasty treats mouse can choose from on his birthday.
Angelina’s Birthday by Katharine Holabird– Angelina of the Angelina Ballerina series learns the value of working hard to get what you want but also that sometimes you can receive a kind gift too.
Happy Birthday Little Pookie by Sandra Boynton– We have a big collection of Sandra Boynton books and the Little Pookie ones are by far the most fun with their simple pictures and catchy rhymes. E loves Little Pookie! In Happy Birthday, Little Pookie an excited pig celebrates however he chooses the whole day.
When’s My Birthday? by Julie Fogliano– This has been one of my daughters favorites. The children ask many questions like most kids do leading up to the big day. When is my birthday? Where is my birthday? And will there be cake?!
The Birthday Presents by Paul Stewart– Two friends want to give each other the perfect presents for their birthdays. They end up coming up with some clever and thoughtful gifts to exchange.
A Birthday for Bear by Bonny Becker– This book is in chapter book form so we have been reading it over many sittings. Bear doesn’t think he likes birthdays and is very against them. His sweet friend Mouse shows him that maybe they aren’t so bad after all.
Toot & Puddle: A Present for Toot by Holly Hobbie– I just adore the illustrations in this charming series by Holly Hobbie. These two friends live in the a lovely place in the woods. Puddle tries throughout the story to find the best present for his friend.
It’s My Birthday by Helen Oxenbury– You might recognize the author/illustrator from her other famous story We’re Going on a Bear Hunt. A little boy receives a lot of help from his friends to bake a cake.
Do any of your kids have a birthday coming up? I hope these titles can be enjoyed by your child as they have been by mine. Happy Reading!
